A Cursed Idol is a game-changing item that originated in Survivor: The Cursed Idol.

Origins

With the author of the said fan fiction being Filipino, the first four seasons of his fan fiction series were inspired from his local version of the series. The Cursed Idol was inspired from the Black Pearl, a twist that debuted in the Philippine version (named Survivor Philippines, not to be confused with the 25th season of the US series), was a blackish-silver colored ball that is large as a billiard ball. Its mechanism was, after the merger, the eliminated castaway will hand the Black Pearl to one of the remaining contestants before finaly leaving the game. This would give the recipient an extra vote at the next Tribal Council.

The recipient must present the object at the next Tribal Council to count it as a vote. If the ball gets lost, whether by accident or on purpose, two votes will be counted against the recipient. The only way to nullify the effects of the Black Pearl is to win individual immunity (it should be noted that during the first season of Survivor Philippines, there was no Hidden Immunity Idols then).

A variant of the Black Pearl, called the Blood Pearl, where two votes will be counted against a player. The Blood Pearl was introduced in the Philippine version's second season, Survivor Philippines: Palau.

Premise

After a castaway gets voted out, he/she has a privilege, one last move before permanently leaving the game, the Cursed Idol. Before getting his/her torch snuffed, this player will have a chance to still somehow change the game, even after his demise. The eliminated player will be given this object, and delivers it to one of the remaining players. The recipient of this idol will receive an additional one vote the next time this person goes to Tribal Council. Even when his/her tribe wins an Immunity Challenge, the Cursed Idol is still in play and will still count against the player who receives it the next time he goes to Tribal Council. The only way to defuse the power of the Cursed Idol, is if the recipient uses a Hidden Immunity Idol, or wins an individual Immunity Challenge (after the merge). The Cursed Idol is still valid up until Day 37. The producers created this dreaded item to further remove the possibility of a tie vote, and also to give an opportunity to the eliminated contestant to screw the remaining players up, as an act of revenge for their removal.
