Derek Richardson is a contestant from Survivor: Santa Cruz Islands.
Name (Age): Derek Richardson (28)
Tribe Designation: Temotu
Current Residence: New York, NY
Personal Claim to Fame: Having the privilege to show my well-kept body to the public.
Inspiration in Life: All of my fellow models. They always inspire me to equal their work, if not surpass it.
Hobbies: Working out and keeping my body in shape. The two may go together, but I can't do my job otherwise. And it keeps me very busy and unable to do other things.
Pet Peeves: People who don't take care of themselves or don't behave in a manner that they should.
3 Words to Describe You: Prepared, Laid-Back, Good-Looking
If You Could Have 3 Things on The Island What Would They Be and Why? Probably supplies like a lantern, flint, and something like a mattress. I know some of those are supplied as rewards, but it would still be nice to have if we lost out on them.
SURVIVOR Contestant You Are Most Like: I'm a lot like Colby. I just want to play a stronger game than he has the past couple times.
Reason for Being on SURVIVOR: I've always been on these nice locations for photoshoots, but I have never been able to fully enjoy the island life. Now, I get the chance to. That and a million dollars is always nice.
Why You Think You’ll “Survive” SURVIVOR: Being a model has made the outdoors my second home somewhat. I'm very adaptable when it comes to doing what is asked of me, so I should fit in just fine.
Why You Think You Will Be the Sole SURVIVOR: I should excel in the challenges and, as I said before, I'm a chameleon when it comes to the people side of it. They won't even realize that they need to get rid of me before it's too late.
Survivor: Santa Cruz Islands
Derek was one of nine members of the Temotu tribe. At the beginning of the game, he aligned with Jocelyn Peck after the two discussed their careers with plenty of interest. This also a garnered a private annoyance from Justin Passmore, who was listening to the conversation from afar. Derek and Jocelyn were then sought out by Troyzan Robertson, Katherine Webb, and Mike Gregory, who had just found a hidden immunity idol, to make an alliance of five and ensure that they had majority. After the alliance was made, Jocelyn communicated to Derek that she felt uncomfortable with where they stood in the alliance, feeling that the pair was on the bottom. The two then approached Troyzan in regards to what their position was in the alliance with Troyzan telling the pair that they were not on the bottom, which was not true. Afterwards, Derek internally waffled his options on whether the two should switch over to Amy Young's alliance. In time, Derek and Jocelyn agreed to side with Amy and Robert Stineman after continuing to be dissatisfied with their position within Troyzan's alliance. This created a power struggle between two alliances of four after Justin was brought in by Troyzan as a back-up plan, with Melanie Pointer being seen as the perceived swing vote. However, Melanie was voted out at Temotu's first Tribal Council due to her deteriorating condition, leaving the two alliances of four deadlocked. But on Day 16, the two alliances were jumbled as the tribe switch entered the game. Derek, along with Amy, Jocelyn, and Justin, remained on the Temotu tribe with newcomers the original Fatutaka tribe, Andrew Green and Jordan Owens. The two outsiders were immediately seen as threats by Derek's ally Amy, even when the two tribes merged on Day 21. The two alliances from the former Temotu set their differences aside to pick off the final two Fatutakas as long as they did not win immunity or play hidden immunity idols. The latter reason would delay their plans as Andrew and Jordan both played immunity idols to fracture the former Temotus and ultimately blindside Derek's closest ally, Jocelyn. With Jocelyn gone, Derek's alliance was down to three with Troyzan's alliance still at four and Andrew and Jordan still seen as outsiders. That, however, all changed when Andrew showed Amy another idol, which was actually fake, and eventually gave up the idol in attempt to create a new final five alliance between Amy, Andrew, Derek, Jordan, and Robert. The plan worked as Troyzan was blindsided at the next Tribal Council, evening the numbers of the Temotu alliances once more. Andrew, in the meantime, was not done shifting the numbers around as he approached Derek and Robert in the hopes of blindsiding Amy, who had the fake immunity idol now in her possession. When the idea was being discussed amongst the three guys, Mike stumbled upon the discussion, worrying Derek that he may have caught wind of the plan. After another discussion with Robert and then reporting the potential blindside to Amy, the former Temotus ganged up on Andrew and Jordan, sending the latter home in a 6-2 vote. This left Andrew in the middle of the two alliances of Temotu, now at three a piece. At the next immunity challenge, Andrew came from behind to beat Derek and make himself immune from the next vote, leaving himself as a swing vote between the alliances. At that Tribal Council, after Katherine did her best to persuade him and with Amy claiming that he had no chance in the game if he did not win immunity, Andrew sided with Justin, Katherine, and Mike to blindside Derek, his biggest immunity threat. Derek went to vote for Katherine to become the Sole Survivor after finding out that it was Katherine who had convinced Andrew to side with her.
