Joel quickly made bonds with the three other outsiders, Chloe, Rodger, and Louie. After Louie got eliminated from the game because Abbie and Holly didn't vote for Regan, Joel angrily got into a heated argument with Abbie and Holly, pressuring them as to why they didn't vote for Regan. Because of his constantly growing temper and his poor performance at the immunity challenge on Day 6, Joel was originally set to go home. However, Rodger pulled some strings and got the majority alliance to send Chloe home instead.
On Day 12, both tribes had to attend Tribal Council. Rodger and Joel, the only people remaining who weren't apart of the Sweetheart Alliance, tried to convince Ida and Harvey to turn on Regan and vote for Abbie. After Ida revealed to Rodger and Joel that Regan had a Hidden Immunity Idol that Abbie and Holly were unaware about, the two men planned to use it to their advantage.
While Rodger decided to slyly warn Abbie and Holly about the idol, and they didn't believe him, Joel blurted out that Regan had an Immunity Idol at Tribal Council that night. Regan, figuring out that Ida had told Joel about the idol, was furious about Ida's "betrayal". Ida was furious about Joel blowing her cover. Holly and Abbie were furious that Regan didn't fill them in about the idol, and they sent two votes Regan's way. Despite all of the animosity directed towards Regan and her idol, Joel was eliminated in a 4-2-2 vote when Ida decided to stick with Regan and her crew because of Joel's outburst at Tribal Council that night.
