This is the ninth episode of Survivor: Kenya

Previously On Survivor...

  • Fears over the newly hidden idol grew to an all new level, especially in the notoriously paranoid Lynsie. However at the Survivor Auction her fears were ceased when she won the clue to its whereabouts. After sharing it with her allies, they all worked together to distract Libby, Stephen, and Rachael, while she managed to dig it up underneath their shelter.
  • Knowing she was at the bottom, Libby devised a plan to get Rachael out due to her connection with Lynsie. After approaching Dan and Shaun, it was determined that they'd use her plan to take Rachael out without questions arising about loyalties.
  • When Rachael won immunity for the second time in a row, it seemed Libby's fate was sealed, but Dan and Shaun decided they wanted to try to flip the script and eliminate Stephen.
  • However at tribal council in a vote of 6-1, Libby was the latest to leave the game.

Challenges

Reward Challenge: Challenge Pitch
The tribe would be divided into two teams of three. Each team would use sand bags to knock down the other teams wall. Once one team decimates the other team's wall, both teams would switch positions, and one member will start rebuilding their wall. First team to finish rebuilding wins reward.
Reward: An overnight visit to a local town with their loved ones.

Immunity Challenge: Wrist Assured
Castaways hold on to a handle with a rope wrapped around it. At the end of the rope is a bucket that contains 25% of their body weight. As the challenge goes on, the rope will begin to unspool, making it harder to keep the bucket in the air. The last castaway remaining in the challenge will win Individual Immunity.
Additional Stipulation: Before the challenge starts, the castaways were given an opportunity to eat a barbecue dinner in exchange for sitting-out in the challenge, forfeiting their chance to get Individual Immunity.

Story

Night 26

It's a cold night. There's a dampness in the air, and the clouds are rolling in. Thunder can be heard in the distance and the castaways huddle into the shelter and hope that they wont have to bare a storm like the one they endured the other day.

Tonight Libby went home, and I can't say I'm upset about it. She got a free ride half way into the game, I don't respect that. She didn't deserve to be here. On top of that she voted for me, when I couldn't even vote! That pissed me off, that's kicking someone when they're down. Like heck, she spewed this (bleep) about targetting duos, then voted for me?

–Stephen

Stephen however puts his sour feelings on the back burner, and helps Shaun but down some low branches to add to the roof of the shelter. The two tried to cover as many holes as they could.

Stephen is PISSED that Libby voted for him. If that's enough to get under his skin, it'll be terrifying to see his reaction when we have to vote him off.

–Johnathan

With only Stephen and Rachael left, the newly formed Underdog alliance is in full operation and they've managed to remain undetected. A feat they never expected to accomplish.

With a loud crack of thunder, the sky opens up and it begins to pour. It'll no doubt be a long night for the castaways.

Day 27

The morning remains as miserable as the night. Dan lets out a yawn, nearly nobody managed to sleep. After the rain lets up, Shaun crawls out of the shelter to make some rice for everyone. As he cooks Lynsie stands with him with her arms crossed. Lynsie doesn't feel good, Shaun shares the same feeling. It's been nearly a month, the elements and the food is really starting to take it's toll on the castaways. Corinne joins the conversation and jokes that the experience is a great weight loss program, but gets no arousal. Dan lays in the shelter so hungry and weak, he doesn't even want to move.

Looking around, there's so few of us left. It's been a long game. We're all starting to feel like (bleep), because that's how we've been treating our bodies. We're all getting irritable, and less patient with one another. It's hard to even force a laugh at someones bad jokes.

–Lynsie

Shaun serves breakfast, and everyone enjoys. Although Rachael does a little less than everyone else, but she fails to realize. Shaun has taken it into his own hands to weaken her, and has dealt her a smaller meal portion than everyone else.

We need Rachael to stop winning immunity challenges immediately. She's posing a big enough threat as it is, and whatever I can do to weaken her I'll do. We have rice, that's it. It's not much to begin with, and it has taken its toll. So I'm pretty sure that the fact I've been dishing her a few spoonfuls less than everyone else will eventually catch up to her too.

–Shaun

Shaun shares his mischievous actions with Dan later, and the two laugh over it.

Shaun's smart, and you need to watch him. He's not one to be messed with. He may be quiet, but when he talks it's always very thought through. The guy is here to play!

–Dan

Jeff reveals that the winners of todays challenge will be able to take part in the excursion with their loved ones. They all erupt into cheers, and tears. Corinne visibly the most emotion at the news receives a hug from Rachael who stands next to her. Jeff calls the loved ones out in the following order.

This is exactly the kind of morale boost we needed to get through the last portion of this game!

–Corinne

Rachael's cousin, Jasmine.

Dan's partner, Craig.

Corinne's husband, Peter.

Shaun's mother, Geraldine.

Johnathan's best friend, Scott.

Stephen's girlfriend, Annabelle.

Lynsie's father, Harold.

Dan, Rachael, Stephen are selected for the red team. Corinne, Shaun, and Lynsie are selected for the orange team. Unselected, Johnathan must sit on the side lines and choose a team to root for, if the team he roots for wins he may also participate in the reward. Johnathan picks the orange team.

Lynsie

Corinne, Johnathan, Shaun, and Lynsie are all forced to say goodbye to their loved ones. Corinne is effected the most by the loss. Her husband hugs her, and reminds her to remain strong throughout the game and that she only has a little while longer left.

Rachael, Dan, and Stephen, along with their loved ones, head off out of view in order to be taken away to their reward.

Lugon

Returning to camp, everyone is fairly silent. Corinne breaks the quiet with her tears and anger. She exclaims how unfair it is, considering she has kids and family of her own. "They should have thrown it to us!" Lynsie puts her arm around her, and guides her into the shelter to calm her down.

Corinne thinks that we should have won on the default based on the fact she has kids. I'm sorry, but that's not right. We all have families, and we all miss them. Obviously everything's okay, if someone died you would know by now. Relax.

–Lynsie

Listen lady, your family isn't any more important than anyone else's. Get over yourself. Yes, we're sad. But we didn't win, and there's nothing we can do about it. We'll see them in a matter of days anyway, right now we have a chance to win a million dollars! Suck it up!

–Johnathan

Johnathan and Shaun both sit by the fire, clearly extremely annoyed by Corinne's tantrum.

It's hard to work with Corinne, it really is. She's wishy washy, and can't keep her emotions in check. I tell you, she really needs to start watching herself, she'll find herself on the outs so quickly if she doesn't.

–Shaun

Reward

Rachael, Jasmine, Stephen, Annabelle, Dan and Craig all arrive to a nearby local town, in the back of a pick up truck. The back pops open, and all six hop out. Immediately, they are greeted by a fire roasted feast. They sit down at a beat up old picnic table and dig in. Craig tells Dan how proud he is of him that he's managed to make it this far, knowing how out of his element he is. Stephen's girlfriend, Annabelle, refuses to kiss his dirty mouth with a laugh. Both Jasmine and Rachael talk about how grimy and dirty she is, along with the conditions. Jasmine's shocked to learn Rachael had just showered merely days earlier, as she has already become so dirty again.

This is the interaction that we needed. It's tiring being with the same people, and hearing the same stories. Being in the presence of someone that cares for you, and that you care about, especially after enduring this experience... the feeling is unimaginable.

–Stephen

After dinner everyone takes part in a evenings worth of celebrations, thrown especially for the six of them. Dancing, music, socializing, a true escape from the cruel nature of the game.

We all felt like celebrities.

–Dan

After a few drinks, Stephen has Annabelle sitting on his lap, and finally gets the kiss from his girlfriend he's been waiting for. Dan and Craig are dancing with some of the local children, Rachael and Jasmine are socializing with some of the elders.

This was an amazing experience, they live such a different way that what me and you would back home. It's so crazy, a completely whirlwind. It's this part of the survivor experience that I am truly grateful for. A glimpse into a word that otherwise I wouldn't ever have.

–Rachael

Day 28

Reward

Waking up is a miserable experience for Dan. He's woken up with a hangover, and almost immediately had to high tail it into the bushes to throw up. He spends the morning in bed with a bucket, guzzling water. His partner, Craig, brings him a hefty, greasy egg breakfast, which helps him a lot.

I didn't even think Dan drank that much last night. He just can't hold his alcohol.

–Stephen

After lunch everyone squishes back into the truck, and heads away for the days excursion, zip lining. Soaring high above the jungle floor, it's a view like no other. It's one that makes Dan's already sensitive stomach turn upside down.

Poor Dan. This is an amazing opportunity, and he's stuck on the ground due to his hangover (laughs). Poor guy.

–Rachael

Lugon

Back at camp, life has been continuing as normal. Although Corinne has remained in her sour mood, remaining quiet and withdrawn from most conversations.

Some days out here are easier than others. Just knowing my husband was here, I held him, and I couldn't spend time with him.. that's... that's really hard for me to swallow.

–Corinne

She's just a sore loser, and it makes me just want to vote her off. Shape up!

–Johnathan

Dan, Stephen, and Rachael all return from their reward. They're welcomed back with open arms from everyone, except Corinne. Originally they had planned to keep the bragging to a minimum, but Lynsie insists on hearing the stories from the reward. This causes Corinne to immediately stand and leave the group huddle. This didn't go unnoticed.

I figured she'd be a little upset, but she just gave us the cold shoulder. She wasn't welcoming at all.

–Stephen

After she was out of hearing distance, Stephen asks what her problem is. Lynsie explains that she's upset about yesterdays loss, and not being able to see her husband. When told that Corinne expected them to throw the challenge due to her having kids at home, neither Stephen or Dan were very happy. Rachael however can understand her frustration.

After the conversation dispersed, Dan found himself still caught up on Corinne's selfishness. The two of them had after all been friends nearly the entire game. He'd expect her to at least bite her tongue and be happy for him.

I'm actually.. really thrown off by how prickly Corinne's behavior has been. She has nobody but herself to blame for losing, it's not my fault. If she continues this little attitude of hers, I might not be as hesitant to write her name down.

–Dan

Corinne lays in the shelter alone under one of the blankets. The expression on her face reads of nothing but sadness.

I really don't care if I'm annoying people, or they think I'm just letting my negative feelings fester. I'm sad! I'm not going to hide it because others don't want to feel guilty.

–Corinne

I don't understand how Corinne plans on winning this game. She earned such a bad wrap after flipping sides TWICE, and once she seems to settle down and earn some trust back her attitude becomes so sour. Living with Corinne is becoming so draining, more so every single day. It might almost be worth voting her out next if Rachael wins immunity because it's just exhausting to live with all the time. She's got a weird, over the top mentality and I'm beyond done with it.

–Lynsie

Day 29

Lugon

Back at camp Rachael was congratulated on her third immunity win, and rewarded with hugs from both Lynsie and Corinne.

This woman's a robot, I don't know how she does it! She's starting to pose a serious threat to us, if she wins one more challenge we're going to have to start turning on our own.

–Lynsie

(Smiles which turns into a giggle) I love winning! This is a competition. I'm an athlete, I'm competitive. I love the fact I've been doing so well, I just hope that people don't look at me differently because of it. I'm just putting my heart into this game, that's all. It's a trait I've been taught all my life participating in sports, it's the respectable thing to do. (Looks around to ensure nobodies around, and whispers) You know what's not respectable? Not participating at all in order to eat (Rolls eyes).

–Rachael

Rachael fakes a smile to Lynsie, but deep down she's disappointed in her. With the numbers behind her, Lynsie is obviously safe from the upcoming tribal council regardless of not having immunity. In Rachael's mind, that just shows arrogance on her behalf. She was surprised to see both Dan and Johnathan opt for food, but most effected by Lynsie's decision as that's not the person she views her as being.

Corinne, Shaun, Lynsie, Dan, and Johnathan huddle together quickly to make sure everyone remains on the same page. Tonight is Stephen's night to go home.

Dan: Tonight is Stephen's night, next we have to make sure Rachael doesn't win. Lynsie you need to tell her she has to stop, because she's putting a target on her back!

Corinne: Do you really think she'd just throw a challenge and leave herself vulnerable, especially after three in a row?

Lynsie: She'd have to, there's no way she could win her way to the finals. If it came from me, and I said "listen, you're making yourself a target, throw this", she would do it. Rachael would never suspect that I would put her in danger.

Johnathan: Would she ever give you the immunity necklace?

Lynsie: Not in a million years, think about it. If I was in danger, that would mean someone would have had to have turned on me. If I was turned on, then suddenly immune, she'd obviously be in danger.

Lynsie: (Sigh) Yeah, I suppose you're right about that one.

I'm not stressed about tonight, we have our scapegoat. BUT, this little winning streak of Rachael's is really starting to look like it could put a dent in our plans. We may have made a mistake getting rid of Brock over her.

–Johnathan

Corinne, Shaun, and Dan leave both Lynsie and Johnathan sitting alone on the stumps next to the fire pit. Rachael eventually joins them to check in on the vote. Lynsie knows that she cannot tell her about voting out Stephen as it would show Rachael her betrayal, and knows that after tonight the line in the sand will be drawn. Johnathan knows this is making Lynsie uncomfortable, and does the lying for her. He tells Rachael that the plan for tonight is to vote out Shaun, and Rachael says she's fine with that. Stephen joins them, "It's Shaun", Johnathan repeats as he sits down. "Okay", he says as he shakes his head in agreement.

Later on both Dan and Shaun are laying together inside of the shelter. Shaun rolls over onto his side, proping his head up by laying it on his hand, and looks to Dan who's still laying on his back. Shaun asks Dan whether or not eliminating Stephen would be the best idea. Dan knows Shaun intends on going somewhere, and tells Shaun that he's listening and open to ideas. Shaun compares Stephen to Corinne in the sense that they both contribute about the same around camp, and offer the same amount of physical ability in challenges. Shaun asks the question why they don't just vote out Corinne, stating he's tired of living with her.

If there's one person I trust in this game, it's Dan. I've played with him the longest. So of course if I want to bring up betraying one of our own, Dan's the one I'll trust to mention it to first and foremost.

–Shaun

Dan says that he doesn't know if that would necessarily be the best plan of action, but Shaun retaliates. He tells Dan that above her nasty attitude around camp, that she has proven to constantly seek greener grasses, and that they should pull the wool over her eyes before she does the same to them.

Dan shuffles in discomfort, goes to say something, but sighs and remains quiet. Shaun feels like he might be making some ground with his argument, and reminds Dan that they'd still have the majority even after blindsiding Corinne. Dan just looks back at him blindly with a grin.

I like Corinne, I like her a lot. We've been together since day 1, and I really don't think she'd turn her back on me. However, shes flipped before, and I understand everyone elses fear.. and they're probably right. If she could find a better deal, I know she'd take it. People have problems trusting her, and now that she wants to be sour about things like the reward challenge... people don't see any reason to keep her around anymore. I'm going to try my hardest to save her, I just don't know if I can anymore.

–Dan

Before heading to tribal council Dan quickly pulls Corinne aside. He tells her he doesn't have much time as everyone's getting ready to leave, but says he needs to talk to her. Corinne's put on edge as she has no idea what this could mean, and begins to let anxiety take control of her emotions. Dan tells her that she really needs to watch the way she carries herself, and that her personality has been a turn off to everyone around camp the past few days. Corinne eyes widen and her brow wrinkles as she is quite taken back. Dan warns her that she could see her name appear at tonight tribal council, and she goes into panic mode. Freaking out in fear of letting her children down. Dan puts both hands on her shoulders, leans into her and looks into her eyes and he reassures her that it's highly unlikely, and just doesn't want to see her surprised. He hugs her to finish defusing the situation, and he tells her that she just needs to start being a little more self aware. Corinne's voice is quiet, she's clearly upset, but she thanks him for the heads up and having her back.

It seems like I can't do anything to win. No matter what these people seem to (bleep)ing have a problem with me about something! It drives me crazy, my actions are scrutinized so hard when others get off with things scott-free! I'm tired of this double standard. If I'm fortunate enough to survive tonight, I'm just going to start biting my tongue, I don't know what else to do! Clearly if my allies are willing to turn on me because of that though, I need new alliances. That's the one for sure thing I do know. Because I'll tell you right now I didn't come all the way here to Kenya, only to make it this far and be voted out. Oh no, screw that. I have kids at home that I want to send to nice schools, and anyone that wants to screw me out of that has another thing coming.

–Corinne

Tribal Council

At tribal council, jeff asks how after two unanimous votes a seemingly solid group of people can decide to pick off one of their own. Dan elaborates that there's still cracks, mostly based on former tribal boundaries. Jeff states that it's an obvious vote to eliminate either Dan or Shaun, and asks the question if fears of a hidden immunity idol have arisen. Both Dan and Shaun claim they don't have it, while Rachael confirms that it's a possibility but not one she's concerned about. When asked about alliances and how people are playing, Corinne takes the moment to take a jab at her allies, causing Dan to shake his head. She says that people need to start playing smart, and with their heads and to stop targeting people based on pure emotions. It is then time to vote. The first two votes are revealed to be for Shaun while the rest of them are for Stephen. He and Rachael are both blindsided by the results. Stephen is silent in his departure. Rachael looks over to Lynsie and mouths the words "never in a million years", insinuating she would have never turned her back on her. To this Lynsie has nothing to say, and just hangs her head low. After he has his torch snuffed he looks back at everyone for a quick second, drops his head and leaves the tribal council area.

Tonight with this vote, I am sealing whatever fate I have in this game and exposing my true loyalties

–Lynsie

Here's hoping it's you and not me tonight.

–Corinne

You (Shaun) are just the stronger of the two left in the game, sorry man. It's just the way the cookie crumbles.

–Stephen

Final Words

I... I don't know what happened. I spent this whole game building myself into power, I started at the absolute bottom. Now I find myself in what I thought was a position to go to final 4, and here I sit now. I'm completely stunned, sorry I'm not able to put things into better words, I just... they got me.
