This is the season premiere of Survivor: La Mosquitia.
Reward Challenge: Temple Transfer
One tribe member voted from each tribe will climb a pole and retrieve a monkey statue. With the statue, they must dig there way through the mud under a log on there way to a station with three platforms with a five piece pyramid on the right platform. The castaways must move the pyramid one piece at a time to the left platform without placing larger pieces on top of smaller pieces. That includes the monkey statue which is the top of the pyramid. The castaway to complete the pyramid first wins reward for his or her tribe.
Reward: Flint and a 20 pound bag of beans
Immunity Challenge: Wicker Flicker
Each tribe will select two people to fire balls from a slingshot into an open field. The remaining contestants spread out to designated locations and compete to catch the balls with a handheld net. Every time a ball is caught that tribe scores a point, and the first tribe to reach five points wins immunity.
Additional Stipulation: If Warunta wins, they too will receive flint.
|“||We are back in the Gracias a Dios region in Honduras for another season of Survivor. We have moved from the Caratasca Lagoon of last time and we are now in the La Mosquitia area of the department where sixteen new castaways will compete for the million dollar prize and the title of Sole Survivor. 39 days, 16 castaways, 1 survivor!||”|
Each tribe exited their respective riverboats. The castaways noticed a pole, a log, and two stations with three platforms next to the shore. After the castaways reached each tribes' gathering point, Jeff addressed them, "Welcome to Honduras and another season of Survivor. First order of business."
Jeff picked up two bags. He tossed one to his left which was caught by a tall redheaded woman. He tossed the other to his right which was caught by a young blonde woman with a blue shirt on. Jeff said, "Those are your buffs. Purple tribe, you are called Segovia. Blue tribe, you are called Warunta."
|“||For one of the few times in my life there is someone here taller than I am. In face he is so tall, I look short compared to him. I know it has no bearing on the game. I just think it's cool. Plus he looks like a good guy. Who knows, maybe we'll click and become allies.||”|
Jeff waited until all the castaways had their buffs in place and settled down before he addressed them again, "I know you guys are ready to start this game so let's start in. In the bags of buff, there is another bag. In those bags are pens and paper. We are going to have our first vote. Each tribe will vote for someone right here at the beginning of the game. I'll give you a minute to vote for someone and then we will reveal everyone's votes."
|“||There it is. This game is on. Voting for someone right as the game starts. This game is insane.||”|
The tribes finished voting and retook their place. Jeff said, "We'll start with Segovia. Show you're votes."
Keena: Guy with the full beard (Tevin)
Erick: Red (Esther)
Esther: Blue glasses and striped shirt (Olive)
Quinlan: Motorcycle Jacket (Erick)
Olive: Tall guy (Parker)
Parker: Blue Hair (Alina)
Alina: Old guy (Quinlan)
Tevin: The redhead (Esther)
"Esther, with just two votes come join me over here."
Silently, Esther walked over next to Jeff and Jeff said, "Warunta, it's your turn."
Unlike Segovia, Warunta was unified in voting for Inez. Inez received seven votes and her vote was cast against Lester. Inez walked over next to Inez. Both women had disappointment on their face. Esther had more than that. She had a little anger on her face. Jeff saw it and asked, "How do you feel?"
"Angry and disappointed. Not angry at them. They weren't unified against me. I'm just angry that I didn't get a chance to compete," Esther said.
"I did say that there would be a vote. I didn't say that the ones who received the most votes would be voted out. In fact, you are not out of this game, but you will compete for your tribe in the first tribal reward."
Esther raised her right fist in the air with happiness. Jeff continued, "Each of you will climb a pole and retrieve a monkey statue. With the statue, you must dig your way through the mud under a log on your way to a station with three platforms with a five piece pyramid on the right platform. You must move the pyramid one piece at a time to the left platform without placing larger pieces on top of smaller pieces. That includes the monkey statue which is the top of the pyramid. The first one of you to complete the pyramid wins reward for your tribe. And your reward will be flint and 20 pound bag of beans, but more importantly, you have the chance to change your first impression to something positive and reversely, negative. Take your spots and we'll get started."
Esther and Inez took their spots. Jeff gave the signal and the two were off. Esther flew up the pole, retrieved the monkey, and was running to the log before Inez had made it to the top. Esther started digging chunks off mud from underneath the log. Esther dug a hole underneath the log and began to push her way under the log. Esther easily pushed her athletic body under the log. She had already started on the puzzle before Inez had reached reached the log.
"Esther is flying through this challenge. Inez, pick it up!" Jeff commentated.
Without any help from her tribe, Esther quickly and successfully moved the pyramid to the left platform. Finally, Inez reached the puzzle, but was completely exhausted. Esther, however, continued to fly through puzzle without having to backtrack. Only a couple more minutes passed and then Esther completed the pyramid and put the monkey statue on top the pyramid. Esther yelled, "Done."
"Esther wins reward for Segovia!" Jeff said, "Go and join your tribes."
Esther rejoined Segovia while Inez rejoined Warunta. Segovia congratulated Esther on her return to Segovia. Inez was not so warmly received. Jeff gave Segovia their reward and the two tribes left to go back to their respective camps.
|“||Holy crap. Esther flew through that puzzle like she made it. If the puzzle has a perfect number of moves, Esther did it. She completed the puzzle in a perfect set of moves. I'm glad she's not gone. Not to mention she's hot as hell.||”|
|“||Even though she only received two votes, Esther did receive the most votes today. I think she changed everyone's mind with her knockout performance earlier. I know that I want to be on her team later on. She's athletic. She's smart by the speed and efficiency she solved that puzzle. Not to mention, she's attractive as hell. That's a good way to get a guy on her side and it makes her dangerous. She's the trifecta. Esther's got brains, brawn and beauty. That's going to get her deep in this game and I want to be there.||”|
The Segovia tribe arrived at their camp victorious after winning the first challenge of the game. Esther was congratulated by the other seven members of her tribe on her win for the tribe. After the the congratulations, the tribe went off to do separate things. Quinlan and Tevin hit it off instantly and went off to collect firewood to start a fire. Alina and Keena scoped out the area around the camp. Erick avoided everyone and just grumbled.
Parker walked up to Esther and said, "You did great out there in the arena. It looked like you knew how to work that puzzle."
Esther turned to Parker. She looked up at him, "I did know what I was doing. I had done that thing dozens of times before."
"What do you mean?" asked Parker.
"It's based on the Tower of Hanoi puzzle. It's one of my favorites actually. I was able to do the puzzle today with the minimum number of moves, 63. Since there were six pieces, it was 63 moves to solve the puzzle perfectly," Esther explained.
"So I guess you like puzzles," Parker deduced.
Esther smiled, "I love puzzles. I've been doing them as long as I can remember."
"Is that what you do with your life? Do solve puzzles all day?" asked Parker.
Esther shook her head, "Not really. I'm a cheerleader for the Philadelphia Eagles. I've been one for four years."
"Really? Are they your favorite team?" asked Parker, surprised.
"Yes, they are. I was born and raised in Pennsylvania," Esther answered him, "What about you? Are the Eagles your team?"
Parker smirked and shook his head, "No, the Cardinals are my team."
"Arizona?" asked Esther with a little disbelief in her voice.
"Whatever works for you," Esther told him, "Anyway, we better start working on getting a roof over our heads before nightfall."
"Yeah, you're right," Parker agreed.
|“||Parker seems like a really nice guy. Even though we've only talked once, I think we'll be going places in this game. I liked that I surprised him with the fact I'm a cheerleader for an NFL team. He seemed to be okay with it despite him being an Arizona fan.||”|
Parker and Esther were joined by Olive as the three of them started building the shelter. Within a couple of hours, the tribe had their shelter almost finished along with a fire and beans cooking over that fire.
|“||I have my work cut out for me already. Day One and I have a target on my back. Everyone voted for me thinking it was an elimination. I had a chance to repair my image, but I failed miserably. The redhead from the other tribe was better than I was. I'm also 67. I don't climb well anymore. I never really did climb all that well. I have at least until Day 3 to change my image around here.||”|
Warunta returned to camp. Despite losing, they didn't let it bother them. The tribe introduced themselves to each other. Despite being voted for and coldly received, Inez was in the conversations along with everyone, but she didn't really connect with any of her tribemates so she was still on the outside. Piper, however, was the only one who attempted to reach out to her. The two of them talked as the other members of the tribe did their own thing in helping getting the camp set up. Astrid, Xavier, Dennis, and Lester started working on the shelter while Michelle and Ivan tried to start a fire without any flint. After several minutes, Piper left Inez and went to help out with the shelter.
|“||Until we get fire, this is going to be a heck of a ride. I'm going to try and get a fire, but I don't know how far I can go until I get tire.||”|
After Esther and Parker woke up, the two of them spent the majority of the morning sitting at the riverbank talking between the two of them. So far, it had only been Olive who had noticed that the two of them were already getting close on Day 2. So in the early afternoon Olive approached them and asked, "Can we talk?"
"Yeah, sure," Esther said.
Olive sat down next to Esther. She said, "I guess I'll get right into it. If this tribe continues to vote like we did yesterday, we won't be a unified front. I think we need to establish a group in this tribe. You two are tight already. I was just wondering if you'd like to add a number three to this thing so we have some sense of security."
"I don't mind the sound of that," Parker said, "But I have noticed that Quinlan and Tevin are also getting a little close. Why don't we try to bring them is as well."
"Possibly, but they don't seem to be talking to anyone but each other really," Olive said.
"What about the others?" asked Esther.
"Alina and Keena are just here. They are thinking strategy at all. I have no idea what Erick is doing. He just seems to be innately angry. I don't know why he's here or what he's doing," Olive said, "So I guess for now that it's us three. I personally think that's enough to vote someone out on this tribe. It's not like we are unified."
Olive stood up. She wiped her pants off and said, "I'll leave you two alone."
"No, it's okay. You're fine," Esther said with some uncertainty in her voice.
"I'll let you two talk. It's more than obvious to me that you two are interested in each other in more than a game sense. There is an attraction between the two of you so I'll let you be," Olive said and then she walked away.
|“||It's pretty obvious that Esther and Parker are going to be an alliance that is going to be unbreakable and I'm willing to bet that they will be a couple long after this game ends. As for the game aspect, they can be a couple in this game since it is early, but as the game goes, they will have to broken up and I promise everyone out there that I will be the one to end their in-game relationship.||”|
Astrid, Xavier, Dennis and Lester were all sitting in the shelter. Since working on the shelter, the four of them were always together so Astrid got the idea of confirming what was going on here. She said, "We have all been friends since building the shelter so why don't we cement what's going on? What do you guys say?"
Lester nodded his head in agreement, "I think that's a good idea."
"So do I," Xavier agreed.
"So our agreement is that we are going to be the Final Four then?" asked Dennis.
"That sounds wonderful to me," Lester said.
"Then it's official," Astrid said, "Final Four."
They all agreed. Right after that, the four of them heard Ivan cheer. Ivan went to the entrance of the shelter and told them, "I got a fire started."
"Seriously?" asked Astrid.
"Yeah," Ivan said as he darted out.
|“||Today was a great day for me. I formed an alliance and not even two seconds later Ivan gets a fire started. This has been one awesome day.||”|
Jeff called out for the tribes and they walked into the challenge arena. After the tribes were positioned, Jeff asked, "Are you guys ready to get to your first immunity challenge? Then this is what you seek..."
Jeff unveiled the immunity idol which was the same as the monkey statue from the first challenge only it was bigger. Jeff went on, "For today's challenge, each tribe will select two people to fire balls from a slingshot into an open field. The remaining castaways will spread out to designated locations and compete to catch the balls with a handheld net. Every time a ball is caught that tribe scores a point, and the first tribe to reach five points wins immunity. I know this is worth playing for. Also, if Warunta wins, you win flint as well. I'll give you a moment to strategize and we'll get started."
Several minutes later the tribes were ready. Shooting for Segovia were Olive and Tevin. Shooting for Warunta were Astrid and Michelle. Jeff gave the signal and the challenge was on. Olive and Astrid shot off first. The two balls went flying into the air. Piper ran to catch the first ball for Warunta. Parker and Ivan both ran towards the second ball. Ivan looked just in time to see a massive mass of person rushing towards him. Instead of catching the ball, Ivan jumped out of the way and Parker caught the ball.
"We are tied. 1-1!" Jeff commentated.
Michelle and Tevin fired the second round. Surprisingly swift and agile for an old guy, Quinlan jumped in front of Lester and stole the ball just as Esther's height gave her an advantage over Inez to take the ball.
"Segovia up 3-1!"
The third round of balls were fired. Xavier scored for Warunta. Ivan outran Alina to even the score up.
"We are tied up at 3-3!"
The fourth round of balls shot off. Ivan outpaced his competitor and scored for Warunta. Right after Piper jumped up to score the winning point for Warunta.
"Warunta wins immunity!" Jeff announced. The tribes took their places on their mats. Jeff gave Warunta the idol and flint, "These are yours, Warunta. Congratulations and head out. Segovia, I'll see you tonight where one of you will be voted out of this game."
The two tribes left the arena and headed back to camp.
|“||Even though we won, I have to say something about that challenge. You don't know true fear until a seven foot giant is running full speed at you. I don't think I've ever been so scared before. It's possible, but I'm not sure. Who cares though? We're immune!||”|
Olive, Esther and Parker gathered. Olive asked, "Who do you think?"
"Alina," Esther said.
"Alina? Why?" asked Parker
"She was the weakest one today."
"What about Erick? He didn't do anything," Parker said.
"True, but he's got strength. Alina looks like she doesn't," Olive said.
"I'm with Esther," Olive.
"Then I am too," Parker said.
Segovia walked in lit their torches and Jeff gave the first tribal interview of La Mosquitia.
|“||I disagree, but me allies are voting you. This is to prove I am their ally.||”|
Jeff left and returned with the urn. Jeff said, "Once the votes are read, the decision is final. The person will be asked to leave the tribal council area immediately. I'll read the votes.
First vote: Alina
Second vote: Alina
Third vote: Olive
Fourth vote: Quinlan
Fifth vote: Erick
Sixth vote: Keena
Seventh vote: Keena
The first person voted out of Survivor: La Mosquitia: Alina. That three votes, that's enough. Please bring me your torch.
"This sucks," Alina said as she walked up to Jeff.
Jeff snuffed her torch and said, "Alina, the tribe has spoken."
Alina walked out of the tribal council area and Jeff turned to the tribe, "From this vote, I can tell this tribe is not united at all. If you don't find unity, you'll be here a lot. Go and head out."
|Tribal Council 1:|
Alina (3 votes)
Esther, Olive, Parker
Keena (2 votes)
Erick (1 vote)
Olive (1 vote)
Quinlan (1 vote)
|“||Three votes is all it took to eliminate me on the first vote. That's crazy. This tribes division is what cost me. I wonder who will be the next victim.||”|
